Bellinkhof House is situated on Bellinkhof Estate, which was recently created on former agricultural land in the IJssel’s riverbed, close to the town of Deventer. The estate is parcelled out into four generous lots of 5.5 ha. NEXIT designed a strictly geometrical home for one of these lots. The L-shaped ground floor and the ‘floating’ wing on top together form a sheltering U-shaped inner court with entrance and sun terrace. The extended steel frame that supports the top floor underlines this seclusion. A strong abstraction of the ‘floating’ volume is attained by combining dark-tinted solar glazing in windows with (visually) detail-less, black enamelled glass cladding and ensures it nestles in the landscape like a rectangular sculpture. The building blends into its rural context and the reflections in the black glass surfaces connect it to earth and sky.
