About
Increasing numbers of single-person households as well as the trend towards de-cluttered and frugal living in freedom have led to a great demand for more compact homes. Smaller size however, does not necessarily exclude spatiality. In the greater Arnhem area, NEXIT have recently designed and built tiny houses in Schaarsbergen and Rozendaal. Besides these, the office also developed its own ‘case-study’ concept for a ‘Tiny Villa’.
As with the other two, the ‘Tiny Villa’ is efficiently designed and supplied with all amenities within a highly spatial envelope. The home’s shape is derived from that of the barn and so allows for a small dorm-loft. The whole roof structure is plainly visible from the ground level living spaces and lends them a lofty feel. Sanitary and technical rooms are the only enclosed spaces within the core-structure. The full-width sliding windows allow access to the covered terrace and offer a spacious outside-in experience. This mini-villa is designed so that it can be located on any site, whether it be as annex to an existing home, a ‘granny-flat’ in the garden, situated in open farmland or hidden in the depths of woods.
