About
The multifunctional building that NEXIT designed for the site of a vacant post office at the head of Weverstraat, will contribute to this site becoming Oosterbeek’s village center. A concept was developed that mates a carefully designed public realm with an attractive ground floor allowing for shops, café’s and services. This liberally adaptable and flexible ground level was then combined with (energy neutral) apartments for mainly senior citizens. In all there will be thirty apartments boasting a range of sizes and orientations. The basement affords parking spaces for the future inhabitants while the street level places will be reserved for visitors and clients of both new and existing businesses. Huge cavities in the building volume will allow public space to penetrate the interior of this city block and, together with a sculptural treatment of the facade will contribute to this complex becoming a varied and lively entity.
