Health centre Onder de Linden
Health centre Onder de LindenArnhem
This municipally listed former school building was entirely restored, renovated and re-designated. New spatial arrangements were developed to accommodate the health centre. Reception, waiting and treatment rooms were situated in the existing corridors with their ornate ceilings. A new logistical structure was introduced into the building. Making use of the school’s reinstated entrances, each individual subprogramme now has its own characteristic entrance. Entry of daylight into the attic level has been increased by adding skylights to the existing carefully proportioned dormer windows. When they take the new lift, visitors are rewarded with an inspiring panorama of Arnhem’s undulating urban landscape. In its original state (1923) the school building was equipped with an advanced ventilation in its window frames. This system was refurbished and expanded with a sustainable energy concept. The huge monumental chestnut tree in the middle of the old schoolyard has again been given a central role in the new layout of the grounds.
