About
Hidden in the woods around Apeldoorn, the former Van Seventer sanatorium will be transformed into Culture Campus Egerlaan. Initiated by NEXIT architects and Profero Vastgoed bv this project will be developed in cooperation with SLAK, a non-profit foundation that rents out studios, specifically for artists. The former main building which dates from 1925 and the recreation room which was added later, will be transformed in a range of studios and studio homes. The now vacant footprints of the bed-wings will be built up with two unique new blocks, accommodating two types of studio homes. There will be six two-storey studios for single and double households and six, three-level homes for families. In order to correspond to the Modernist mantra of ‘fresh air, daylight and open space’ which characterized the former bed wings, the new buildings show a rational architectural expression. Together with the new semi-public ‘Culture Garden’, this exceptional composition of old and new is destined to become the inspiring and bustling place for imagination, feeding Apeldoorn’s cultural makers.
