About
In cooperation with Maak architecten, NEXIT developed the design for a care home on Het Immendaal estate. Located in the heart of Veluwe’s wooded region, Het Immendaal was originally built as a TB sanatorium for Rotterdam dockworkers. Later, the complex accommodated care-requiring sufferers of dementia. Increasing numbers of these clients led to a demand for buildings which can offer full contemporary levels of care.
Advantages of both small scale living and large scale housing are united in this new complex.
The main building will be stripped down to its original size and accommodate the main entrance and reception as well as supporting services. New apartments and collective ‘living rooms’ will be clustered around this main building. Together, the main building and the eight housing clusters form an enclosed ‘corral’ which allows residents to roam freely in- and outdoors. Intelligent home electronics systems (domotica) will manage the extent of freedom for each inhabitant wishing to visit other clusters. Each living room has its own individual characteristic view, orientation and atmosphere. Grouping them in two’s allows care staff to cooperate and share both functions and resources.
