Hotel ModezElly Lamakersplantsoen 4 Arnhem
Former working-class district Klarendal was, in a joint effort by housing corporation Volkshuisvesting and municipal authorities, resuscitated by fostering new fashion-related developments as a spinoff incubator. This highly successful way of urban regeneration was awarded the 2015 Gouden Piramide, the Dutch National Award for Inspiring Commissioning. Fashion Design Hotel Modez was part of this redevelopment. The building consists of a brick anterior block and a timber-clad posterior volume, joined by a glazed stairwell. This configuration is loosely inspired by the typological and morphological characteristics of Klarendal. Basement and ground floors house the hotel’s café and restaurant facilities. The three upper floors comprise 20 hotel rooms while the attic level contains three special suites. Interior fashion concepts were developed by NEXIT in cooperation with Studio Piet Paris, which supervised a selected group of locally trained fashion designers in supplying special identities for individual rooms.
