About

Starting as a research project in 2006, Standing Garden was supported by the Netherlands Architecture Fund. Research was aimed at alternatives to traditional greening solutions in urban areas, and especially on constricted sites lacking space. This has led, among other things, to a number of ‘vegetable façades’ that have, in varying guises, been utilized across Arnhem. The Dutch Green Building Award was awarded to the projects in 2011. A number of other ‘urban utensils’ and follies was awarded prizes as well. An example being the balcony in folded Corten sheet steel, developed in a cooperation with artist Alphons ter Avest. This was awarded the Staalprijs in 2016.
